～湯河原沸石の発見地～

湯河原町奥湯河原にある落差15ｍの滝です。滝をつくる崖は、溶岩や凝灰岩など湯河原火山の噴出物からできています。湯河原火山の岩石中には、沸石と呼ばれる白色の鉱物が産します。この場所で発見された沸石に、湯河原の地名がついた湯河原沸石があります。発見者はアマチュア鉱物研究者、故櫻井欽一博士で、中学生の時（1930（昭和５） 年）の出来事でした。学術的な発表までは時間がかかり、1952 （昭和27）年に論文となりました。2016 （平成 28）年（一社）日本地質学会は県の石（岩石、鉱物、化石）を発表しましたが、湯 河原沸石は神奈川県の鉱物に指定されています。
滝の左側には身代わり不動尊、右側には出世大黒尊が祭られてます。
This 15m high falls is located in the Okuyugawara area, west of Yugawara. The rock behind the falls is a lava that erupted from Yugawara volcano 400 to 250 thousand years ago.
A white mineral called zeolite is visible in the rocks around the falls. The zeolite found here is called Yugawarite.
On the left side of the falls you can see Migawari-Inari (the Inari god who sacrificed himself; he was originally a god of harvests, and was later worshipped as guardian deity of this area) and on the right side you can see Shusse-Daikokuson (the god of wealth).
